Reflexology usually involves massaging the hands and/or feet and applying pressure to various points. It works on the theory that there are areas or reflexes in the feet or hands that correspond to the different organs, glands and tissues of the body. Whilst there is some evidence reflexology may have been practised 4,000 years ago it became more popular in the western world following scientific research in 1898 that discovered the neurological links between organs and patches of skin on the outside of the body.
